Peeping Fawn (USA / UK,IRE) - sensationally bred filly by Danehill out of the Sadlers Wells mare Maryinsky who herself is out of a top class USA 10f winner, came of age in 2007 winning its last 4 starts on end all at Group 1 level including The Yorkshire Oaks, Nassau Stakes, Irish Oaks and Pretty Polly Stakes, won those 4 starts by a combined margin of 11 lengths defeating the likes of Specoisa, Light Shift, Mandesha and Allegretto, trained by the ultra astute Aiden Obrien for Coolmore, set for a brilliant 2008 season.
2. Rags To Riches (USA / USA) – superbly bred 3yo filly by AP Indy out of the Deputy Minister mare Better Than Honour making this a half sister to the ultra smart Seeking The Gold horse Jazil who also won The Belmont Stakes as this filly did, that day made it 4 Group 1’s on end following successes earlier against her own sex, in winning the Belmont Stakes she knocked off the very highly touted Curlin who is also currently a Global Top 10 entry.
3. Ramonti (FR / UK,FRA,HK) - unfashionably bred type by Marju line sire Martino Alonso out of the El Gran Senor mare Fosca, did its initial racing in Italy scoring at G2 level and finishing 2nd in the Italian derby before being acquired by Godolphin for its 2007 season, in 2007 won 4 from 6 finishing 2nd at its 2 other starts with all 6 starts being at Group 1 level, wins in 2007 included The Queen Anne Stakes, The Sussex Stakes, The Queen Elizabeth II Stakes and last start went to Hong Kong to conquer the best in the world winning the Hong Kong Cup over 10f holding sway over champion Hong Kong stayer Viva Pataca close home, showed it is more than just a miler that day and has reached a new level under the guidance of Godolphin handler Saeed Bin Suroor.
4. Daiwa Scarlet (JPN / JPN) – very well bred type by hot young Japanese Sire Agnes Tachyon out of the very good producer Scarlet Bouquet making this a 3/4 relation to Daiwa Major another very good Japanese horse who only just missed the Global Top 10 2007 year ending standings, this one won 3 Group 1’s this season including The Japanese 1000 Guineas over Vodka and The Queen Elizabeth II Commemorative Cup over older horses including Fusaichi Pandora and Sweep Tosho, last start she finished 2nd in the Arima Kinen on December 23 with Daiwa Major 3rd really franking the form once again, an absolute top class filly set for big things in 2008.
5. Curlin (USA / USA) – started his racing career only in February of 2007 and ended the season with 3 Group 1 successes beside his name including winning The Preakness Stakes over Street Sense and Hard Spun, also defeated older horses in The Jockey Club Gold Cup before scoring in The Breeders Cup Classic by 4.5l defeating the very smart Danzig colt Hard Spun, also nosed out by Rags To Riches in The Belmont Stakes, well bred by Canadian based sire Smart Strike out of the Deputy Minister mare Sherriff’s Deputy.
6. Sacred Kingdom (AUS / HK) - brilliant Australian bred sprinter who does its racing in Hong Kong, by Encosta De Lago out of the Zedative mare Courtroom Sweetie, has now won 7 from 8 after last start conquering the best sprinters from around the globe winning the Group 1 Hong Kong Sprint, that day sprinted quickly to knock over last years winner Absolute Champion and also Australian champion sprinter Miss Andretti amongst others, very adaptable with a blistering turn of foot and is still on the up, broke the 1200m record set by Silent witness at its 7th career start leading into the Hong Kong Sprint, capable of winning anywhere in the world.
7. Miss Andretti (AUS / AUS,UK) – Australian bred sprinter by Royal Academy line sire Ihtiram out of a Marooned mare Peggie’s Bid, champion Australian sprinter of 2007 and Champion Australian horse after winning 4 times at Group 1 level and also annexing the Group 2 King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot over Dandy Man, Magnus and Takeover Target, luster came off slightly when failing behind Sacred Kingdom in The Hong Kong Sprint but with 4 Group 1’s to its credit in 2007 deserves its place in the top 10, 2nd best open age sprinter in the world behind Sacred Kingdom.
8. English Channel (USA / USA) – Well bred type by Smart Strike out of a the Theatrical mare Belva making it a full brother to Sedgefield who was 5th to Street Sense in The Kentucky Derby in 2007, winner of 3 Group 1’s in 2007 including last start romping home by 7l winning The Breeders Cup Turf on a soft track defeating amongst others Red Rocks, Better Talk Now and Dylan Thomas, deserves it place here in the top 10 on the back of that very impressive effort.
9. New Approach (IRE / IRE,UK) – Very well bred by Gallileo out of the top class producing Ahonoora mare Park Express who is also the sire of Japanese stallion Shinko Forest and 3 other black type winners, undefeated in 5 career starts in its Juvenile season culminating in 2 Group 1 wins including last start in The Dewhurst defeating Fast Company, Raven’s Pass and Rio De La Plate and then also again over Rio De La Plata 2 back winning The National Stakes at The Curragh, definitely the best of the European 2yo form for 2007 and set for a huge 2008 season.
10. War Pass (USA / USA) – Well bred by Blushing Groom line sire Cherokee Run out of the top class producing Mr Prospector mare Vue, undefeated in 4 career starts culminating in 2 Group 1 successes winning The Champagne Stakes over 1m at Belmont before improving again to win The Breeders Cup Juvenile by 4.7l defeating Pyro with a further 12l margin back to 3rd, absolute top class type who is set for a big 2008 with the USA triple crown obviously the major agenda.
